Omipod or stick with the Vibe??

The other day, I found out that my warranty on my Animas Vibe had actually ended and it was just a continuation of my previous pump (Animas 20/20). So essentially I have been walking around without any warranty for the past 3 months.

WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAT!

Anyway! I’ve been given the option of either getting a brand new Animas Vibe or an Omnipod. I’m well aware of what both pumps can do. However I wanted to get your views on which pump would be the better option for me to go with? Or you’re experiences with either pump. I like my Vibe it’s small and easy handle but I also like the idea of the Omnipod as its cable free, I can check my BGL’s on there too and it seems more advanced than my current Vibe.

How does the Omnipod work with the Dexcom G4? Would I need a receiver?

I would appreciate any feedback you can give me to make my decision a lot easier.

*BTW I and other UK WordPress users have been having a lot of trouble using WordPress due to the Internet Watch Foundation blocking WordPress. Although the block has been lifted, some of the WordPress servers are still black listed by ISP’s. On some days I can log on to my blog and access my blog posts. On other days I can’t access a thing.

Thanks Amina.

Just came across your blog and thought I’d say for all the OmniPod users out there that I absolutely LOVE IT. I have the newer, smaller pods and they work perfectly. There is no way this sucker is just falling off. I have to use a Uni-Solve wipe each time to loosen it from my skin (but it doesn’t hurt taking it off). Also love that the PDM is also a glucose monitor, so I’m only carrying around one device. Anyway, if others read this post and are wondering if anyone out there likes OmniPod, I’m here to say I do and would never use a tubed pump. To each their own! =)

    1. Hi I really do appreciate your comment. I think my final decision was made due to the Dexcom. I recently started a trial with it and I find that it works really well with my currently Animas Vibe. I’ve been told that the Omnipod will not be integrating with Dexcom in the future. It;s great to hear some positive feedback about the Omnipod though. I think if it was able to integrate with the Dexcom I would have seriously considered it.

      Thanks for stopping by 🙂

Ive used both the ping and the latest generation omnipod with smaller pods. I was disappointed with the omnipod. The pods would malfunction before the three day wear and Id lose the insulin. Omnipod is impossible to trick, when it says it has an error there is no restarting and it hurt like heck removing the pod adhesive after a day. Some like omnipod but many problems reported. My advice stay with animas.

Also there is no future dexcom integration with omnipod. They dropped partnership in favor of their own cgm solution in the future.

      1. Thank you so much for your advice. I decided to just order another Animas Vibe in the end. After speaking to a lot of ppl who have also tried it out they seemed to have similar issues as the ones you’ve outline above. It’s very important to me that I can use the Dexcom G4 with my pump in the future. Thank you once again Tim 😊

I was pump shopping a few months ago and the Omnipod was appealing. However, I went with the Ping because of it’s future integration with the G4 (hopefully soon, I’m getting impatient!). So far I’m very pleased. I’ve never been “tubing-free” so maybe I don’t know what I’m missing, but for me, the tubing isn’t a huge deal.

Good luck with your decision! I know a few years ago Omnipod sent me a sample pod just so I could see, so maybe contact them and see? at least you could hold it in your hands and actually wear it (w/out insulin) to give it a test drive.

    1. Twitter has really helped me make a decision. Vibe all the way! The tubing has never really bothered me either. The general consensus is that the Omnipod has sticking issues, rather unsticking issues. Any moisture will peel the sticky tape used to hold it place away from your body. I cant be dealing with that. I like the way the Vibe is integrated with the G4.
Thank you so much for your advice and help. I really do appreciate it 😄
